Derby County face competition from Premier League duo in pursuit of £13million rated League One striker

Derby County are showing an interest in Peterborough United striker Ivan Toney, but face competition from Premier League sides AFC Bournemouth and Burnley, according to a report from The Sun.

Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony confirmed over the summer that the club had rejected a £4 million bid  (believed to be from Charlton Athletic) for the striker, and his performances this year have only added to his value.

According to the Sun, Peterborough United have slapped a £13million price-tag on the former Newcastle United man, who has scored 12 goals so far in the league for his side.

Premier League duo Burnley and Bournemouth are reportedly willing to pay £9million, but Posh are wanting to hold out for £13 million, which would make Toney the most expensive transfer ever from the third tier of English football.

Earlier today, the72 reported that Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony had claimed that if Toney was to leave the club, he would break the transfer record for the division, and if reports from The Sun are to be believed he is not wrong.

Toney has been on excellent form for Posh this season, and is currently the joint top goalscorer in the division alongside teammate Mo Eisa, with the pair both having netted 12 goals.

It is Toney’s second season with Peterborough United, and he has already found the back of the net more times this campaign than he did last season.

Posh fans will be desperate to keep hold of Toney as they aim to return to the Sky Bet Championship for the first time since 2013, but if a club can put in a bid in excess of £10 million, it could be hard to turn down.
