Former Leeds United defender praises striker for his attitude

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has praised striker Patrick Bamford for the ‘courage’ he showed when stepping up to take a penalty against Blackburn Rovers according to Football Insider.

The former Chelsea man had gone ten Championship games without finding the back of the net and Mills was pleased to see the forward show ‘bravery’ despite his lack of confidence in front of goal.

Bamford also provided an assist for Jack Harrison as he completed the scoring in a 2-0 victory over Tony Mowbray’s men at Elland Road as the Whites remained third in the Championship table.

Mateuzh Klich is the usual penalty taker for Marco Biela’s side but Mills believes it showed real courage for Bamford to take over the duty.

“You have to say, from the penalty spot as well, that’s a brave decision when you’re on a bit of a drought. “That’s a pressure penalty when you’re at that stage of the game. It’s a big call to take that penalty so fair play to him, all credit. Stepped up very, very calmly and slotted it into the back of the net.”

“It takes a lot of courage to do that, shows he’s confident that the manager’s got faith in him. He’s quite happy for him to take the penalty. It’s good all-round – shows that there is still belief, there is still faith, he’s working hard and got his reward for that.”

With Bamford back on the scoresheet, this is bound to please the Leeds supporters with the striker their main source for goals with on-loan Arsenal man Eddie Nketiah still ruled out with an abdominal injury.

Bamford now has five goals in 16 Championship appearances but there is no doubt he will need to continue finding the back of the net if Leeds are to push for promotion this season.
