His loan spell at the Hawthorns was a success last season, and there is a chance Dwight Gayle could return to the Midlands club on a permanent basis this January.

Gayle is currently at his parent club Newcastle United, but has not started a match for the Magpies this season, and The Telegraph has reported that West Brom are preparing a £10 million to bring the striker back to the club and help them push on for promotion.

The Baggies tried to sign Gayle permanently in the summer, but failed in their bid to do so. West Brom are currently top of the Sky Bet Championship, and bringing the experienced Sky Bet Championship striker back to the club could give them all the boost that is needed to go on and secure promotion back to the top flight.

Gayle has recently recovered from an injury that kept him out for a number of weeks at the start of the season, but since he regained his fitness he has been unable to make any sort of impact on the matchday squad.

Newcastle are expecting a number of clubs to show an interest in Gayle this January, but West Brom are considered favourites by many due to the player’s successful loan spell at the club last season.

Gayle was the Sky Bet Championship’s fourth top goalscorer last season, finding the back of the net 24 times in 40 league games. The only players to score more than him were Teemu Pukki, Tammy Abraham and Neal Maupay, all of whom are now Premier League regulars.
