Peterborough United “tried everything” to sign Leeds United loan star this summer

Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, Peterborough United’s director of football Barry Fry has revealed that the club “tried everything” to sign Brighton and Hove Albion defender Ben White in the summer transfer window before Leeds United swooped to bring in the young star.

Leeds United’s loaned in centre-back Ben White has been a star performer for Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds United side since joining on loan in the summer transfer window, and has earned himself plenty of praise for his performances in the heart of the Whites defence.

His form has seen him linked with a move away from Brighton and Hove Albion to some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs, with Liverpool and Manchester United among those said keen. It has even been suggested that he could have his loan spell with Leeds United cut short if his parent club receives a big offer for him.

Prior to joining Leeds on loan, White had spent two successful loan spells with Newport County and Peterborough United. He was a strong performer for the Posh during his short loan spell at London Road and now, director of football Barry Fry has revealed that he “tried everything” to either buy him or bring him back on loan again this summer. He said:

“We tried to buy him, we tried to loan him, we tried everything. We’ve got good friends at Brighton – Tony Bloom there, the owner and the chairman – he said he’d let us know but obviously when Leeds come calling small fry Peterborough have got no chance.”
