Middlesbrough striker says everyone is behind Woodgate despite poor form

Middlesbrough are 22nd in the table, and are the joint-lowest scorers in the Championship with just 13 goals in 16 games.

Nearly half of Middlesbrough’s goals this season have been scored by their number nine Britt Assombalonga, who has six to his name.

The forward has looked as though he may be lacking in confidence in recent weeks, but two goals away at Queens Park Rangers may be the start of a purple patch.

The international break may come as a bit of respite for Boro, as they aim to work on new things on the training ground ahead of a double header at The Riverside to Hull City and Barnsley over the space of four days.

“I’m sure this two weeks will be full of hard training sessions to make sure we’re ready for after the break” said Assombalonga in an interview with The Northern Echo.

“There’ll be time off, but when we’re in, we’re in, and we’ll be working hard.”

When asked about Head Coach Jonathan Woodgate, Assomablonga spoke highly of the Boro boss.

“He’s always positive,” he said. “The manager is always positive. If we’re bad then we’re bad, and he lets us know. But when we’ve played well, like we did, he praises us. He tells us to keep working hard.

“He’s a great guy, a great manager, and everyone respects him. Everyone wants to work hard for him.”

Assombalonga was not selected for international duty with the DR Congo side, and instead he will be training with Middlesbrough ahead of their clash with Hull City on Sunday 24th November in front of the Sky Sports cameras.
