Former Bristol City and Birmingham City boss set for Hearts interview

Former Bristol City and Birmingham City manager Steve Cotterill is understood to be set for an interview for the managerial vacancy at Ladbrokes Premiership club Hearts according to the Edinburgh Evening News.

The Edinburgh-based club have been without a manager since sacking former boss Craig Levein late last month.

A number of potential candidates have been paired with the role and it has now been reported that former Bristol City and Birmingham City boss Cotterill has applied and will be interviewed by the Hearts board this week.

Cotterill has been out of work for more than 18 months since being sacked by Birmingham City in early spring 2018. The 55-year-old has an extensive knowledge of the English Football League but has no previous playing or managerial experience north of the border.

During his first managerial role with Cheltenham Town, Cotterill guided The Robins into the English Football League for the first time. He also won promotion to the third tier along with the FA Trophy whilst with the Gloucestershire club.

Spells with Stoke City and Burnley followed before Cotterill won another promotion with Notts County in 2010, The Magpies being winners of Sky Bet League Two. He then struggled for success with Portsmouth and Nottingham Forest before achieving a Sky Bet League One and EFL Trophy double with Bristol City.

Cotterill’s latest managerial spell saw him win just seven of his 27 matches in charge of Birmingham City, a record which saw him remain in his role for just six months.
