Huddersfield Town have confirmed on their official club website that centre-back Tommy Elphick will need to undergo knee surgery after picking up an injury in the Terriers’ defeat to the Lilywhites at the weekend.
Huddersfield Town defender Tommy Elphick was forced off in the early stages of the Terriers’ defeat to Preston North End at the weekend. Jon Gorenc Stankovic came on to replace the injured Elphick and with the score at 1-0 to Preston at the time of the injury, it went on to finish 3-1 to the LIlywhites.
Goals from Alan Browne and Paul Gallagher secured all three points for Alex Neil’s side while Juninho Bacuna scored a consolation goal for Danny Cowley’s side.
After the game, the attention turned to Elphick and now, it has been confirmed that the centre-back suffered ligament damage in a tackle. Now, he will have to undergo surgery on his knee before starting the recovery process.
Cowley spoke to the club’s official website upon the confirmation of the news, saying:
“Unfortunately, Tommy’s scans revealed that he needs surgery on his knee. Off the back of this, we will have a clear idea on how long he will be out of action for. He was a big part of this team both as a player and a character. We will certainly miss his leadership qualities.
“His focus is now on making the quickest recovery possible. He is a resilient and determined person, so I have no doubt he will return fitter and stronger than ever.”
