Southend defender embroiled in controversy after being filmed in pub hours after FA Cup defeat

Southend United defender Harry Lennon has been forced to train with the Under-23s after a video emerged online of him in a pub with opposition players.

According to The Echo, Lennon was filmed while out with Dover Athletic players just hours after his side were dumped out of the FA Cup by the non-league club.

The 24-year-old was wearing the club’s official tracksuit and his actions have prompted criticism from Shrimpers supporters.

In the video, Lennon can be seen with Dover winger Jack Minns and his actions have led to boss Sol Campbell making the decision to banish him from the senior squad and leave him out of contention for the Shrimpers’ next game against AFC Wimbledon at Roots Hall.

He told The Echo: “It’s a situation you come across every now and again but we’ve got to find out exactly what went on and that’s key.

“He’s been demoted to the Under-23s and we will take it from there but he won’t be considered for the game tomorrow.”

The League One side have endured a terrible start to the season having only picked up one win out of a possible 17 in the league all season.

Their misery was compounded on Sunday when they were beaten 1-0 by National League side Dover in the first round of the FA Cup.
