Sheffield Wednesday manager Garry Monk has said he has proud of his team for overcoming the obstacles they have faced in recent weeks, despite conceding an injury time equaliser at home against Swansea City on Saturday.
The Owls were convinced they had secured all three points following Morgan Fox’s goal in the first minute of stoppage time, but Swansea went up the other ended and snatched a point in the fourth, with Ben Wilmot scoring from a corner to ensure the Swans returned to South Wales with a point.
In hindsight, Sheffield Wednesday had been behind for more than half of the match. They did not equalised until the 81st minute, but even so it will feel like two points dropped for Garry Monk’s men.
But despite the dropped points, Monk was pleased that his players had come through a difficult week.
Speaking to the club’s official website, the former Swansea City boss said: “We had a lot of disruption in the week and that’s another reason I was proud that it didn’t really seep through into the performance.”
“Julian had a bug and sickness, Hutch had a calf injury and even Liam Palmer had to pull out ten minutes into training with a clash on the knee and we didn’t know if he was going to be ready.”
“Coming into that second week of the international break, we should have most of those lads back. But credit to the players, they dealt with that disruption in the week really well.”
