Cardiff City are monitoring the progress of Ayr United striker Luke McCowan.

The Bluebirds are considering a move in the January transfer window for the in-form Scotsman, according to a report by the Daily Record.

McCowan, who is 19 years-old, is catching the eye of clubs down the border after scoring eight goals so far this season in the Scottish Championship.

Cardiff are keen to bolster their attacking options this winter after a slow start to life back in the second tier. They are currently 14th in the table after five wins from their opening 15 matches and are four points off the Play Offs.

Neil Warnock’s side may also have one eye on the future in their pursuit of McCowen with the youngster being tipped for great things.

McCowan has risen up through the youth ranks at Somerset Park and signed his first professional contract last year. The left-footed forward then signed a new two-year deal in June.

He has filled the boots of Lawrence Shankland this season for Ayr, with the prolific Scottish international leaving for Dundee United over the summer.

Ayr will be desperate to hold onto McCowan this January but may have their hands tied if Cardiff move in with a healthy cash sum.
