Preston North End dealt double blow ahead of weekend’s game

Preston North End have been dealt a double blow ahead of this weekend’s game with Huddersfield Town, with Ben Pearson ruled out due to suspension and attacking midfielder Daniel Johnson set to miss the game through injury.

The pair have been crucial to the Lilywhites’ success so far this year. Preston currently sit second in the Sky Bet Championship table, something that not even the most die hard North End fan could have predicted before a ball was kicked this season.

But Alex Neil has united the players, and there is genuine belief around the city that this could be the year that they finally make it to the Premier League.

However, if they are to continue their winning ways this weekend, they will have to do it without holding midfielder Ben Pearson, who picked up his fifth yellow card of the season during Sunday’s victory over Charlton Athletic, and will consequently serve a one game suspension.

According to the Lancashire Evening Post, Preston will carry out tests to assess a foot injury that saw Daniel Johnson limp off during the first half of the game.

North End will be keeping their fingers crossed that Johnson is fit, as it will already be enough of a blow for them to have lost Pearson.

Speaking to the LEP about Pearson’s suspension, it is clear that LilyWhites boss Alex Neil is not too happy with his player.

“The referee obviously felt Ben had stepped over the line. To lose him for a game for that is very disappointing,” he said.
