Blackburn Rovers boss full of praise for central defender

Blackburn Rovers secured an impressive 2-1 victory over promotion chasing Sheffield Wednesday at the weekend, and Tony Mowbray has been full of praise for his players since the final whistle.

It was an impressive victory for Rovers. Sheffield Wednesday were in the Play-Off places heading into Saturday’s game, and Mowbray was thoroughly impressed with how solid his defence was, especially Tosin Adarabioyo.

The 21-year-old is currently on loan from Premier League champions Manchester City, and he scored the equalising goal as the hosts came from 1-0 down.

Not only that, but according to the Lancashire Telegraph, he won more headers than anyone on the pitch.

Speaking to the Lancashire Telegraph, Blackburn boss Mowbray described the City loanee’s performance as immense.

He said: “I thought Tosin was immense, moving Derrick out wide probably took some pressure off him physically which he’s been struggling with.”

“Although he scored a goal, he put in a big performance outside of that. We’ve had some problems recently with the directness of teams and we did a bit of work on putting Tosin to the side of attackers and taking pressure off Derrick who’s been playing at centre-half recently, and we put Derrick at left-back because, although he carries a level of physicality, he finds it really tough to deal with big attackers and we told Tosin to focus on their big attackers, without focussing too much on getting challenges in left and right, leaving Ryan to do that.”

Blackburn Rovers’ next game is this coming Saturday when they travel to another promotion chasing side, Leeds United.
