Football League sides rewarded in Carabao Cup draw

The Football League’s two representatives in the Carabao Cup were both rewarded with high profile ties in the Quarter-Final draw.

Oxford United, who saw off fellow Sky Bet League One side Sunderland in the fourth round, host Premier League champions Manchester City in the Quarter Final.

Man City beat Southampton comfortably in the last round, fielding a near full strength side. The Kassam Stadium will surely be full for the game, which will take place the week commencing the 16th December.

While Oxford United fans will get to welcome some of the best players in the country to their stadium, Colchester United fans will get to experience a trip to one of the greatest stadiums in the country, if not the world.

Colchester beat Sky Bet League Two rivals Crawley Town in the fourth round, and have been rewarded with a trip to Old Trafford to take on Manchester United.

The Red Devils were victorious thanks to two Marcus Rashford goals last night, helping them to a 2-1 victory at Stamford Bridge over Chelsea.

Although both Oxford United and Colchester United are going to be heavy underdogs for their games, both teams have beaten Premier League opposition already in this season’s competition. Oxford dispatched of West Ham United 4-0 at home, while Colchester beat Tottenham Hotspur on penalties, in what has probably been the shock of the competition so far.

The other two Quarter Finals are all Premier League ties, with Premier League leaders Liverpool travelling to Aston Villa, and Leicester City making the trip north to face Everton.
