Could DC United coach be an option for Barnsley?

Barnsley remain in the hunt for a new manager to replace Daniel Stendel.

Adam Murray is currently in caretaker charge and remains the front runner for the full-time job.

Names such as Steve Cherundolo, Ian Burchnall and Poya Asbaghi have also been linked with it being touted that the Tykes may go for a left-field candidate.

One name that has emerged in the running is DC United boss Ben Olsen, who is 10/1 as it stands on SkyBet.

The 42-year-old is under pressure with the Major League Soccer side after they failed to make the Play-Offs this past season.

Olsen, who is from Pennsylvania, spent his playing days in America but had a loan spell in England with Nottingham Forest during the 2000/01 campaign.

He became the manager of DC United, of whom he played over 200 games for in his playing days, in 2010 and has been at the helm ever since.

He won the MLS Coach of the Year in 2014 after guiding DC to the Eastern Conference Title and also became the youngest coach to reach 100 games in the MLS this year.

Olsen was expected to get his side into the Play-Offs this term, especially having the likes of Wayne Rooney and Luciano Acosta in the squad, and they are believed to be considering his future.

After ten years with DC United, is Olsen after a new challenge in his managerial career? He could be the abroad option that Barnsley have been looking for.
