Derby County and Middlesbrough keen on former Wigan striker

Middlesbrough and Derby have seriously underperformed so far this season, with the Rams in 16th and Boro in the relegation zone.

Both Middlesbrough and Derby could be looking to the transfer market this January window to bolster their options, and help to propel themselves up the table.

One name that has been mentioned this week is Aberdeen striker Sam Cosgrove. According to an exclusive report by TEAMtalk, Cosgrove is attracting attention from the Championship duo following an impressive start to the season.

TEAMtalk also state that Brentford and Charlton Athletic are also monitoring the forward’s situation in Scotland.

Cosgrove was released from Wigan Athletic in 2017, and signed for Carlisle United soon after. Although he failed to nail down a starting spot for Carlisle in his one season at the club, he did manage to secure a £2 million move to Aberdeen that summer, and has impressed during his year and a half in the Scottish Premier League.

This season, he has scored six goals in 10 games. To put that into perspective, Middlesbrough have scored 11 goals as a team in 14 games.

Cosgrove is currently joint third in the SPL top scorers chart, level with Alfredo Morelos of Rangers and Ryan Christie of Celtic. He’s behind Christie’s teammate Odsonne Edouard who sits on eight goals, and Rangers’ Jermaine Defoe who is first on 10.

The striker could be available for a reasonable price, but considering his form so far this season, it is likely Aberdeen will want to keep hold of one of their prized assets unless their valuation is met.
