Ex-Wolverhampton Wanderers striker signs new contract with Oxford United

Former Wolverhampton Wanderers striker James Henry has signed a new contract with Oxford United as confirmed to their official website.

Henry joined Oxford from the Midland side in 2017 and he has now committed his future to the League One side for a further two years with the option of an additional year.

The 30-year-old has impressed so far this season and has been the club’s top scorer for the past two campaigns including netting 15 goals last term.

Henry declared his delight at signing a new deal keeping him at the Kassam Stadium: “It was an easy decision because I have loved my time at Oxford and am really enjoying my football right now.”

“It is a pleasure to come in to work every day and over the last year or so we have played some very good football, but also the club is heading in the right direction in everything I see.”

“I am still ambitious and want to win things, and I am pleased that the club see me as part of what they are building.”

The Head Coach of Oxford, Karl Robinson also expressed his delight at the contract extension: “It’s fantastic news for us. It’s not just the goals that he scores, ‘Jamo’ is also selfless and will always play for the team, whatever role you ask him to play.”

“He has the respect of everyone in the building and we see him as a key part of our plans for the next few seasons. It’s great to get this sorted nice and early as well and we look forward to him continuing to play a leading role for us this season and beyond.”

Henry is clearly an integral cog in the Oxford team highlighted by his goalscoring prowess over the past couple of seasons and with the club currently in the play-off places in the third tier of English football he could be the player to push them towards promotion.
