Barnsley caretaker boss on possibility of taking up permanent managerial role

Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Barnsley caretaker manager Adam Murray has remained tight-lipped over the possibility of taking up the role as manager on a permanent basis, saying he has not got it in his head that he wants the job.

Since coming in as caretaker manager after the sacking of Daniel Stendel, Adam Murray has helped Barnsley to two impressive results. The Tykes have drawn against both Swansea City and West Brom under Murray but remain without a win since the first day of the season.

But despite proving to be a worthy candidate since coming in as caretaker, Murray has insisted that he is not focused on earning the job on a permanent basis, stating that he is focusing on the bigger picture to try and leave the club in a good place for when a new manager comes in. Speaking to the Sheffield Star, Murray said:

“I haven’t got in my head that I want the job 100 per cent, I haven’t got in my head that I don’t want to be in this seat for much longer. The thing I have said right from the start is that I could be selfish with it and make it all about me and say I want the job and I want this to be the be-all and end-all.

“But for me, it is about the bigger picture and make sure that whenever a new manager comes in, make sure the team and the club are in a real good place and environment.

“That is my only goal, I am not looking at it from a personal point of view, I am enjoying being with the lads every day and coaching and I have enjoyed the last two games. We will crack on, we will enjoy it, keep smiling and hopefully pick some points up.”
