Manchester City and Liverpool join race for QPR and Leeds United-linked defender

A host of big Premier League clubs have joined the race to sign promising Hearts defender Aaron Hickey.

The in-demand left-back has been linked with Championship duo QPR and Leeds United recently but both sides will face strong competition to land his signature, as per a report by London Football News.

The likes of Manchester City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Southampton and Newcastle United are believed to have sent scouts to watch him this season.

Hickey, who is 17 years-old, has risen into Hearts’ first team over the past few months and has established himself as a key player for Craig Levein’s side.

The Scotland Under-17 international rose up through the youth ranks at Hearts after a brief spell as a youngster at Celtic.

He was handed his first team debut in May in a Scottish Premiership game against Aberdeen and started for Hearts in their Scottish Cup final defeat to Celtic in the same month.

Hickey has since become a regular starter and scored his first senior goal last month in the Edinburgh derby against Hibernian.

Levein’s side will face a major battle to hold onto him in the January transfer window with the way things are going. The teenager will face a big decision as to whether he should leave Hearts for the Premier League or continue to play regular first-team football in Scotland.
