Liverpool and Everton battling it out for Wigan Athletic rising star

Liverpool and Everton are both interested in Wigan Athletic striker Joe Gelhardt.

The youngster has caught the eye of the Premier League rivals playing for the Latics this season, according to a report by TEAMtalk.

Gelhardt, who is from Merseyside, has risen up through the youth ranks at the DW Stadium and has been a key player for their youth sides.

He has also represented England at U16, U17 and U18 levels so far in his career and is being tipped for a bright future in the game.

Wigan boss Paul Cook handed him his first team debut in August last year in a League Cup tie against Rotherham United when he came on as a second-half substitute aged 16.

The now 17-year-old has since made four more appearances for the Latics and scored his first senior goal for the North-West side last month against Hull City when he came off the bench to earn his side a point at the KCOM Stadium.

Gelhardt is an exciting prospect for Wigan and he has got their fans excited. However, as always with a young player breaking into a senior side at such a tender age, he will inevitably be continuously linked with a move away to the Premier League.

The youngster will have a big decision to make about his future, especially if Liverpool or Everton make a move for him.
