Rotherham United defender signs new contract with the club

Rotherham United defender Joe Mattock has signed a new deal with the club as confirmed on their official website.

Mattock is the second-longest serving player at the AESSEAL New York Stadium and has signed a contract extension until 2022, subject to EFL and FA ratification.

The 29-year-old was in the final year of his previous deal but now the paperwork has been completed on his new contract. Mattock has been a vital player for the Millers in his time at the club and they are delighted he has signed on for a further three years.

The new contract means that Mattock’s time with the Millers will run up to seven years which would exceed his stint with boyhood club Leicester City where he progressed through the ranks as a youngster.

Only Richard Wood has been at the club longer than Mattock who has so far been there for four years.

The defender has been entrusted with the captain’s armband on a number of occasions this season in the absence of Richard Wood and has been a key player for the Millers during his spell in Rotherham making 168 appearances in league and cup competitions.

The former West Bromwich Albion man had recently pulled out of the game against Blackpool after the warm-up due to a quad injury but it is believed he will be fit to return for the Oxford game.

Mattock has also joined a spell with Sheffield Wednesday as well as Leicester City and West Bromwich Albion.
