Former Ajax forward having trial at Barnsley ahead of potential move

Former Ajax forward Deabeas Owusu-Sekyere is having a trial with Barnsley ahead of a potential move according to Football Insider.

The 19-year-old is available as a free agent after leaving Portuguese side Leixoes earlier this summer and is hoping to earn himself a deal with the Yorkshire side.

It is believed that Owusu-Sekyere has made a big impression during his trial and could win himself a contract with the Championship side as they look to steer away from the relegation zone following a run that has included just one win in their first 11 league games.

The forward has played with some high profile Dutch footballers having come through the famed Ajax youth academy and played in the same youth teams as the likes of Matthijs de Ligt and Justin Kluivert.

He was never able to break into the first-team at Ajax and is now believed to keen on a permanent move to England to transform his career.

Barnsley are without a manager since sacking Daniel Stendel after their tough start to the Championship season and are in need of some quality additions if they are to avoid an immediate return to League One.

Adam Murray is set to take caretaker charge ahead of Saturday’s home game with Swansea City at Oakwell as they aim to improve their form ahead of the hectic Christmas schedule.

Barnsley have struggled for goals so far this campaign and have the worst goalscoring record in the division with just eight goals in their 11 league games and the acquisition of Owusu-Sekyere could be just the tonic they need to improve in front of goal.
