An updated five potential candidates for the Southend United job

Southend United are still in the hunt for a new manager to replace Kevin Bond. Here is an updated five potential candidates-

Sol Campbell- The former Arsenal and England defender is now the bookies favourite for the job. He kept Macclesfield Town in the Football League last season against the odds in his first managerial position and could now make the step up to League One with the Shrimpers.

Gary Waddock- He has been in caretaker charge since Bond’s departure from Roots Hall and is still an option for them. The 57-year-old is experienced and has managed the likes of QPR, Aldershot Town, Wycombe Wanderers and Oxford United in the past.

Adam Barrett- He is currently the caretaker manager of Millwall but has been linked with a return to Southend for a while now. The 39-year-old is a boyhood Shrimpers fan and spent two spells during his playing career with them.

Neil Harris- The former striker finished his playing days at Roots Hall and is available now after leaving Millwall last week after four years at the helm at The Den. He may have reservations about dropping into the third tier and hold out for a job in the Championship as his next career move.

Luke Garrard- He can be considered as an outsider for Southend. The 34-year-old has managed National League side Boreham Wood for four years now and is a highly-rated young boss. He got The Wood into the Play-Offs two years ago on one of the smallest budgets in the league.
