Sunderland’s managerial position remains vacant as they look to replace Jack Ross. Here is an updated five potential candidates-
Phil Parkinson- He remains the bookies’ favourite and has been available since leaving Bolton Wanderers in August. The 51-year-old knows what it takes to get out of League One having guided the Trotters to promotion to the Championship in 2017, and kept them up the season after.
Gareth Ainsworth- The Wycombe Wanderers boss is also being linked with the Millwall job at the moment. He has worked wonders with the Chairboys and has held that role since 2012, making him one of the longest serving manager’s in the Football League.
Nigel Pearson- His name has been thrown into the mix from somewhere and he has been available since February, having previously managed the likes of Southampton, Leicester City, Hull City, Derby County and OH Leuven.
Daniel Stendel- The German manager left Barnsley last week after a difficult start to the season in the second tier. He guided the Tykes to promotion from League One in the last campaign at the first time of asking. Could Sunderland persuade him into an immediate return to the dugout?
Paul Cook- The current Wigan Athletic boss has been linked with the Black Cats. The ex-Chesterfield and Portsmouth chief won the League One title with the Latics in the 2017/18 season and knows the division inside out.
