Former Leeds United defender fires warning to Marco Bielsa’s side

Ex-Leeds United defender Danny Mills has fired a warning to his former side should they fail to win promotion to the Premier League this season according to an interview with TalkSport.

Mills has claimed that Leeds are the best side in the division but they must start to prove it and feels they must win promotion this season or questions will once again be asked.

The Whites have so far acquired 20 points from their opening 11 league games which whilst impressive, based on their dominance in certain games thus far they could have accumulated more.

They lie in fifth place in the Championship table but Mills believes they need to improve further. “They are the best team in the Championship, but they have got to prove it week in, week out,” he said on the Kick Off show.

“They have got a good squad of players, they have now got a good bench. They are stuttering and starting.”

“The wage bill at the moment for Leeds, including the manager and his staff, is £35/£40million. That is big for the Championship. They need to get up this season. If they don’t, you start to worry again.”

“The owner has just come out and done a rare interview and said there might be new investment and he could be looking to sell the club. We’ve known that for some time.”

“But if they don’t go up this season with that sort of wage bill it will be difficult times again for Leeds.”

Danny Mills has certainly got an interesting point with his views on Leeds’ current situation. Having now been out of the Premier League since 2004, it is vital that Leeds progress and win promotion or face another barrage of questions as to why, with this squad, they are unable to get back to the top flight.
