Leeds striker scores hat-trick for England but admits to bench frustrations.

Leeds United’s fortunes this season have been fair to decent, but there is a lingering issue that is threatening to push the team of course, even though they dominate most games. The amount of missed chances that Leeds are accruing again is costing the team, who ‘should’ be topping the table be more points.

Patrick Bamford has started every league game for Leeds so far this season, but has been guilty of many a missed chance and even though his overall performances have been to a very high standard, the aim of the game as a striker is to score goals.

Leeds United forward Patrick Bamford (9) celebrates his goal 0-1 during the EFL Sky Bet Championship match between Bolton Wanderers and Leeds United at the Macron Stadium, Bolton, England on 15 December 2018.

Marcelo Bielsa does have options, but is loyal to a fault to Bamford, who he says suits his system perfectly.

So with Eddie Nketiah currently on loan with The Whites for the season from Arsenal and Tyler Roberts now back from a long term injury, Bielsa’s options are indeed there, and the Leeds fans are all at odds as to whether it is now time to mix things up a bit up top.

Leeds United forward Edward Nketiah (14), on loan from Arsenal, during the EFL Cup match between Leeds United and Stoke City at Elland Road, Leeds, England on 27 August 2019.

Eddie Nketiah joined Leeds after turning down offers from many other clubs for his development, a move which has worked very well so far, seeing the 20-year-old sitting as the joint top scorer, with Bamford, on four goals, even with his lack of playing time.

Last night, Nketiah scored a hat-trick for England U21’s against Austria, promptong fans of Leeds and Arsenal to call for more game time at Elland Road, a sentiment that the striker himself echoed during his post-match interview with Sky Sports

“I want to play. I pride myself on being in the team. I think I’m good enough to be in the [Leeds] team,” Nketiah said.

“I am really just trying to do as much as I can”

“In the two games I have [started], I have scored. I always try and help the team when I come on.

“I feel like going away with England is always a great opportunity for me to continue to put a case forward and show myself.”

It is difficult to form an argument with his words, that is four goals Nketiah has grabbed himself during the international break, so Leeds United could do much worse than give the boy a chance while he is in form in front of goal.

With rumours rife that Arsenal may well recall Nketiah and send him elsewhere to seek game time, the Leeds fans would be forgiven for wanting the young man used as much as possible in the coming weeks/months.
