Bristol City nearing deal for ex-Sheffield Wednesday and Barcelona B striker – medical underway

According to a report from Football Insider, Championship side Bristol City are closing in on a free agent striker after a long search, with former Barcelona and Sheffield Wednesday striker Rdri said to be undergoing a medical with the Robins this afternoon.

We reported here on The72 earlier today that Bristol City had taken an interest in Spanish free agent Rodri, as they look to close out a deal for a new striker before the end of the international break. Now, it has been claimed that the striker is undergoing a medical with the club as the deal nears completion.

The Robins have been on the lookout for a new striker for some time now after loaned in man Benik Afobe was ruled out for the duration of the 2019/20 after his strong start to the campaign.

While Lee Johnson still has the likes of Famara Diedhou, Andi Weimann and youngster Antoine Semenyo at his disposal, he wanted to bring in another striker on a free transfer to bolster his options and provide further cover for his forwards.

Rodri, 29, has played the vast majority of his football in Spain, playing mostly in the second division. He came through the youth ranks with Sevilla before making a move to Barcelona’s B side where he spent time on loan with Sheffield Wednesday, Real Zaragoza and UD Almeria before making a permanent move to 1860 Munich.

Since then he has played for the likes of Real Valladolid, Cordoba CF, Cultural Leonesa and Granada CF, who he left in the summer. Now, Rodri will test himself with Bristol City in the Championship, almost seven years since he made his last loan appearance at Sheffield Wednesday.
