Leeds United fans are often seen as a fanbase who are hard to please, in some ways they are. However, this is due to the high expectations that they place on both the club itself and the players who represent it.
They are, on top of being expectant of dedication and success, fiercely loyal and that is one of the traits that is most notably seen across social media. When news came through before this season kicked-off that the popular Pontus Jansson was moving to divisional rivals Brentford, there was an understandable backlash.
Jansson had grown into something of a cult hero during his time at Elland Road, the Whites helping the rangy Swedish centre-back recapture both his love for football and his international place. Yet, a falling out of some sorts with head coach Marcelo Bielsa meant that the popular Swede had to move on from the club and for a cut-price £5.5million fee too.
His replacement, on-loan youngster Ben White from Brighton, came in for a particular level of scrutiny from expectant Leeds fans. At first many weren’t happy, seeing the temporary arrival of White as not an adequate replacement for the departing international in Jansson. How that has changed!
Now Ben White is being lauded as the excellent player that he is, standing out in a good Leeds United side. His poise and guile have enamoured him to the terrace faithful at the West Yorkshire club. It is safe to say that he has won all doubters over.
Trouble is, the consistency of his play has also alerted others with Liverpool, said to be ready to entertain a £20 million January bid to bring him in as a replacement for Dejan Lovren. That January bid, should it materialise, could very well sound a knell for the Whites push for promotion from the Sky Bet Championship.
The Liverpool interest is enough to get Leeds United fans commenting on Twiter; here’s what some of them have been saying.

How good must Brighton’s central defence be if he can’t get in.

Another club keeping tabs on Bielsa’s signings!
Amazing how these clubs don’t recognise the talent themselves but take a second look after Bielsa signs them. 🤔
