QPR defender attracting Premier League transfer interest

According to a report from Football Insider, Queens Park Rangers utility man Ryan Manning is attracting transfer interest from Premier League side Southampton, with his contract set to expire next summer.

Since the arrival of Mark Warburton at the Kiyan Prince Foundation Stadium, Ryan Manning has made the transition from midfield to left-back, performing strongly in a role that was previously unfamiliar to him.

And, his performances at left-back have not gone unnoticed, with Southampton reportedly taking a liking to the 23-year-old. The Saints are said to be plotting a move for Manning in the January transfer window as they hope they could get him in a cut-price deal with his contract set to expire in the summer of 2020.

With Southampton taking an interest in Manning and with his contract expiring, it may not be long before Queens Park Rangers look to tie him down to a new contract. The club have the option to extend his deal to end the risk of losing him on the cheap in January.

Manning started out his career in the Republic of Ireland with Mervue United before moving onto Galway United. After a successful start to his career in Ireland, he was lured to England with Queens Park Rangers in 2015. In his time in England, Manning has played 63 times for QPR, with the majority of those coming in the middle of the park.

He spent a brief but successful stint on loan with Rotherham United and has been more involved in the QPR first-team picture since. Now, with Southampton said keen, it will be interesting to see how Manning’s situation develops.
