Bristol City considering swoop for ex-Manchester City and Swansea City striker

According to a report from Football Insider, Championship outfit Bristol City are eyeing up a possible move for free agent striker Wilfried Bony, as they look to bring in a new striker to bolster their attacking options.

Since loaned in striker Benik Afobe was ruled out for the duration of the season, Bristol City have been looking at the free agent market to bring in another option up top to reinforce Lee Johnson’s attacking ranks. Gary Hooper is one free agent who has been linked and now, it has been reported by Football Insider that Ivorian forward Wilfried Bony is a potential option.

Bony is without a club having departed Swansea earlier this year. Over the course of the summer, the striker was looking to find a new club and was training with League Two outfit Newport County to try and maintain his fitness levels but he is yet to find himself a new club with the season well underway.

Having started his career in Ivory Coast, Bony made his breakthrough with Sparta Prague, where he scored 33 goals in 79 games and earned himself a move to Vitesse Arnhem. He enjoyed a thorough successful spell in the Netherlands, netting 58 goals in 77 matches before moving to Swansea City.

Bony’s first stint with the Swans was thoroughly successful, scoring 34 goals in a year and half, earning him a move to Manchester City. He spent two and a half years with City, spending time out on loan with Stoke before returning to the Liberty Stadium in 2017, but he failed to rekindle his form and was sent on loan to Al Arabi before being released.

Now, it will be interesting to see if the Robins offer Bony a route back into the English game as Lee Johnson looks to step up his chase for a new striker.
