Adam Barrett “proud” of Millwall performance against Leeds United

Adam Barrett got off to a dream start as Millwall’s caretaker manager after their 2-1 win over Leeds United at The Den yesterday.

Goals from Jed Wallace and Tom Bradshaw gave the Lions a 2-0 lead at half-time after Gaetano Berardi was sent off for the visitors.

Ezgjan Alioski’s goal just after the interval made it nervy second-half for the hosts but they held out for an important three points.

Barrett, who was installed as Millwall’s caretaker boss after Neil Harris’ departure this week, spoke to their official club website after the match: “I thought it was fantastic energy from the lads. The first half was outstanding and we thoroughly deserved to be 2-0 up at half-time.”

“We had the worst start to a half we could possibly have straight after half-time, it made it nervy, but we looked to settle ourselves down. Of course, the last 24-48 hours have been quite emotional for everyone at the club, and I think you could see the tiredness late in the game.”

He continued: “We obviously didn’t have long to prepare, but we were in yesterday and we had the gameplan to get after them, get the punters on their feet. I just think the lads gave everything, particularly in the second half when we were mentally tired, and to a man we were outstanding.”

“I’m so, so proud of the boys in there, against a top team in Leeds, a very good side. You could see their quality throughout, but the way we dealt with them and caused them problems I’m extremely proud of.”
