Leeds United head back to Coventry in starlet hunt

Leeds United are a side renowned for being able to bring through exciting youngsters to the first team, be they home-grown or brought in.

Under the stewardship of current owner Andrea Radrizzani, the youth set-up at the West Yorkshire club has been revitalised with some serious efforts put into invigorating a playing stock left to go to rack and ruin under Massimo Cellino.

Promising youngsters from at home and abroad have been brought into the club and both the Under-18s and Under-23s went on to have successful campaigns last time out.

With Leeds United looking to kick on from last season’s successes, recruitment is still at the top of the club’s agenda. The latest player, according to a report by Coventry Live, to be sounded out is Coventry’s fast-improving starlet left-back, Sam McCallum.

The Sky Blues isn’t an unknown location for the Whites who were sniffing around the Ricoh Arena only last season with interest in McCallum’s teammate Jodi Jones before an ACL injury seemed to quell that interest.

The tracking of McCallum comes just two seasons after the League One side plucked him from the relative obscurity of non-league football with Hearn Bay. He’s gone from impressing at Under-23 level to now being a regular for the first-team at Coventry.

The young left-back, he’s still only 19, has made eight appearances for the first XI at Coventry this season, with six of these being in the league – including five games as a starter.

With Leeds United continuously looking for good players to add to their young playing stock, it might be worth keeping an eye on this interest in youngster McCallum.
