Lewis Holtby comments after securing move back to England with Blackburn Rovers

New Blackburn Rovers signing Lewis Holtby has said he “can’t wait” to get started with the Championship side.

The 29-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Ewood Park club.

Holtby, who is a Germany international with three caps to his name, has previously played for the likes of Schalke, Tottenham Hotspur, Fulham and Hamburg.

He left Hamburg at the end of last season and has been a free agent since.

Holtby has spoken to Blackburn’s official club website after securing his switch to Lancashire: “I’m very, very happy and can’t wait to get back on the field. It’s like I’ve turned back time again in coming back to England.”

“I’ve turned 29 this week, so I’m a bit older than I was than the last time I was in England, but I’m just happy to get a new challenge at what is a very warm club. The people that I’ve got to know here, such as the gaffer, I can see that this is a club with ambition and a club that wants to get back to the Premier League.”

He added: “For me, from now on, the aim is to show my best football to improve the team and myself. Hopefully we can get going to have a positive time together. I think the move took so long because it was a big decision to return to England. I’ve played at Hamburg, which was a really intensive time for me over the five years.”

“After that, you try to figure out your personality, what you’re looking for and what you want to do.”
