Derby County midfielder aware of ‘toughest test of the season’ against Leeds United

Derby County midfielder Tom Huddleston is fully aware that their trip to face Leeds United will be their toughest test of the season so far as reported by the Yorkshire Post.

Phillip Cocu’s Derby side make the trip to West Yorkshire on Saturday lunchtime as the two sides come face to face for the first time since last season’s play-off encounter in which the Rams came out on top.

Derby have had a mixed start to the season in which they have won just one game, the opening day victory against Huddersfield Town.

However Leeds have enjoyed the complete opposite with them having won five of their opening seven games and tasting defeat just once.

Huddlestone featured in all four fixtures between the sides last season and is under no illusions of the test that the Whites will post tomorrow.

The former Tottenham midfielder was asked whether this was their toughest test and he responded: “I think so.”

“When the fixtures came out, the first month on paper looked very tough anyway but after the last couple of seasons that Leeds have had, the way they have started this year then going to Elland Road is always difficult and Saturday will be no different.”

Huddlestone understands that Derby haven’t perhaps started the season as well as they would have liked but he believes in new manager Cocu and his ideas.

“The manager’s ideas are getting across,” he added. “I think parts of the team are taking it a little bit slower than others, but everyone is buying into the ideas.”

“We know what is expected of us. It is going to be a tough game at Leeds, but I think even though points-wise we are not where we want to be, we could be four or five points better off.”

Both clubs will be aiming for promotion to the Premier League this season especially considering how close they both came in the last campaign and although Leeds are one of the best teams in the division, with the pressure off the Rams they may be able to kickstart their season with a victory here.
