Key defender Tom Lees is set to miss out for Sheffield Wednesday for Garry Monk’s home debut according to The Yorkshire Post.

Lees has missed the last couple of games due to a hamstring injury and Monk has confirmed that he is likely to miss out again for their game with Fulham at Hillsborough.

In a pre-match interview Monk said: “It’s still not quite where we would like him to be, we have been assessing him all week, we have another day Friday, so it’s a little bit playing by ear.”

“It’s a difficult one. We want him back as soon as we can, but we have also got to make sure we don’t force what is a minimal injury.”

“It’s been a couple of weeks now, but he is not far away. He is probably unlikely for the weekend. Because it’s not a serious injury, there’s no point in rushing him back and missing a much longer period.”

The absence of Lees for another game most likely indicates that Dominic Iorfa is likely to retain the central defensive pairing with German Julian Borner especially as they earned a clean sheet against Huddersfield Town last weekend.

Despite Lees missing out for Garry Monk’s side they have positive news on the injury front with there being no other issues ahead of a tough test against Scott Parker’s Fulham.

Following on from a victory in his first game in charge, Monk will be looking to back it up with successive victories to push them further up the Championship table.
