Ex-Leeds United defender Danny Mills has made a bold claim about his former club following their recent victory over Barnsley as reported by Leeds Live.

Mills believes that Leeds are all set for promotion this season after their impressive start to the season and admits he thinks they are Premier League bound.

Leeds lost out in the play-off semi-finals to Derby County last term after finishing in third place after a brilliant season and Marco Bielsa’s team are already leading the way this term.

The former Leeds defender told TalkSport: “I was concerned. It looked like another one of those Leeds game where they were going to dominate possession and create lots of chances.”

“They did ride their luck at time and I think Barnsley had a real go. It was a little bit feisty but in the end, they managed to get those goals with Eddie Nketiah coming off the bench.”

Mills thinks they need to improve in front of goal but is still confident that they are one of the best sides in the league on their day.

He added: “If you finish above Leeds, you get automatic promotion. I think Leeds are the best side in the Championship.”

“They have improved their squad on last season but they have to go out there and prove it. It’s all right being the best squad on paper but they have to prove it week in and week out.”

“They have got to start putting the ball in the back of the net a little bit easier. They haven’t done that a few times this season, against Swansea and Forest.”

Danny Mills is spot on with this comments regarding his former side. Leeds have the best defence in the division having conceded a measly three goals in their seven games so far and are amongst the best in attacking areas of the pitch as well.

They were in the top two for a long period of time last season and will have been disappointed to have missed out on automatic promotion let alone promotion altogether and will surely be determined to put that right this campaign.
