Shrewsbury Town boss on why he moved to sign striker from Nottingham Forest

Shrewsbury Town manager Sam Ricketts has said that the “bubbly character” of striker Jason Cummings was one of the reasons behind his swoop for the Nottingham Forest striker.

In the summer transfer window, Shrewsbury Town swooped for Nottingham Forest striker Jason Cummings on a permanent basis, bringing the Scotsman in to further their attacking options on a two-year contract, bringing an end to his disappointing spell at the City Ground.

Now, speaking to the Shropshire Star (as cited by Nottinghamshire Live) ahead of their clash with AFC Wimbledon later today, Shrewsbury Town boss Sam Ricketts has said that Cummings’ “bubbly character” was a factor behind bringing him in earlier this summer, as well as his goalscoring record.

“That’s partly the attraction for me to bring him in. He’s got quality and can score goals. He’s still young but can bring a little bit of nous to the team but also bring his general personality.

“I think that will be that of a bubbly character and make sure the training ground and group are lively. But when it’s time to work he and the rest of the squad will work. Outside of that, I do want the players to enjoy themselves, enjoy coming in and enjoy having the craic with each other.”

Cummings could be set to make his debut for the Shrews tomorrow having spent the last few weeks rebuilding his fitness after an uncertain summer transfer window, in which Forest boss Sabri Lamouchi was keen for the striker to move away on a permanent basis.
