Reading receive loan bid from Australian A-League side for goalkeeper

Reading have received a loan bid from an unnamed Australian A-League side for young goalkeeper Liam Driscoll.

The Royals are believed to be weighing up the offer, according to a report by Berkshire Live.

Driscoll, who is Australian, apparently wants to stay in the UK but has entered his final year of his current contract at the Madejski Stadium.

The 20-year-old started his career in his native Australia with Perth Glory but moved over the England in 2015 to join Reading. He is yet to make a senior appearance for the Championship side.

Driscoll, who is highly-rated by the Royals, has impressed for their Under-23’s over the past couple of years and has also gained some first-team experience out on loan in non-league with Staines Town, Hungerford Town and Salisbury since him move four years ago.

He joined National League side Yeovil Town over the summer on a short-term loan but had to return to Reading prematurely after suffering an injury.

Jose Gomes’ side now have a decision to make whether to loan him out to Australia or keep him at the club. Their transfer window shuts at the end of October.

Driscoll needs to be playing as much senior football as possible but he and Reading will have to decide whether a move back to Australia will benefit his career prospects.
