Sheffield Wednesday have turned to Garry Monk as their new manager.
The Owls have been in the hunt for a new permanent boss since Steve Bruce’s departure to Newcastle United in the summer.
The Championship side have decided Monk, 40, is the man to take them forward this season.
He has been available since he was sacked by fellow Championship side Birmingham City in June.
He started his managerial career at Swansea City and spent a year-and-a-half at the helm at the Liberty Stadium in the Premier League.
He left Elland Road for an unsuccessful spell at Middlesbrough before boosting his reputation at Birmingham City in the last campaign.
During his playing days, Monk was a central defender for the likes of Swansea, Southampton and Barnsley and had a brief loan stint at Sheffield Wednesday during the 2002/03 season.
Here is how the Owls fans have reacted on Twitter to his return as manager 16 years later-
Right behind our new gaffer not much out there that was better but keeping Bullen on and you’re running the risk of like before of the manager getting stabbed in the back, should wipe the slate clean so Monk and his team knows it’s his way or the highway #SWFC @swfc

I honestly don’t see the issue with Monk. Some of the drivel on here is quite depressing. Let’s give it a whirl eh rather than drown ourselves in pathetic crying over something we have no control over. #swfc

Listened back to Garry Monks interviews and presser. He spoke well and I liked his enthusiasm. We’ll see how he gets on. To be fair the talent pool out there is limited and as soon as it appeared Cowleys weren’t in the frame then I can see why GM fitted the owners bill #swfc

There are worse managers than Monk. It's not exciting but it it is solid #swfc
