Lee Bowyer discusses prospect of new contract negotiations at Charlton Athletic

Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has been speaking to the South London Press about the prospect of new contract negotiations, saying that a new deal would “have to suit everyone” for him to put pen to paper on it.

Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer’s current contract has just one year remaining on it, with the Addicks manager leaving the club as it stands at the end of the season. He put pen to paper on a one-year deal at the end of last season to keep him at the club when it had seemed that he would be leaving The Valley.

Now, after the club’s impressive start to the season and as speculation continues, the South London Press asked him if he would be open to putting pen to paper on a new contract. saying:

“It depends. It has to suit everybody. At the present time, the reason why they offered me a one-year contract is because it suits them.

“If they wanted to offer me longer it would have to suit everybody. I think people were aware in the summer I wanted a two-year contract – just so I had more security and also a base to build from. Then you know you are going to be here two years, at least, and try to build something.

“That isn’t the case. At the moment I go up until June again. Everybody has to be happy with the contract they sign – whether that is a player, coach or manager.”

Bowyer has been heavily linked with the vacant managerial role at Huddersfield Town but has since said he is committed to remaining with Charlton Athletic. However, should his deal expire at the end of the season, he would be free to leave the club and go in search of another managerial role elsewhere.
