Barnsley midfielder Mike Bähre has admitted it is a new thing for him being a captain.
Daniel Stendel appointed the 24-year-old as the Tykes’ skipper for this season despite him never being in a similar role before.
Bähre, who is from Germany, signed for Barnsley on a permanent basis over the summer. He spent the last campaign at Oakwell on loan from Hannover and helped the Yorkshire side gain promotion from League One.
He has been speaking about his new captaincy role, as per a report by the Sheffield Star: “It is a new thing for me. I have to get experience for it, but I think I have done alright. Everybody is helping, everybody is happy for me. It’s not like I am the leader now, we have a good group. That is one of our main strengths.”
“We have got a good team and we are working as a team. It is not like I am the big man, everybody takes responsibility and it’s what we have. I don’t think a captain should be shouting at anyone.”
He added: “With my attitude on and off the pitch, even if there are some days where nothing really happens or nothing works, you can still work hard. I think that is why I can be an example.”
Bähre rose up through the Hannover academy and went onto play three times for their first team as well as having loan spells away in the German third tier at Hallescher FC and SV Meppen.
