Speaking to Lincolnshire Live, Lincoln City manager Danny Cowley has said he is remaining focused on this weekend’s game against Wycombe Wanderers amid continued links with the managerial role at Sheffield Wednesday.
Over the course of the summer, Lincoln City boss Danny Cowley has been linked with a number of Championship manager roles. Derby County were linked with Cowley before bringing in Philip Cocu as were West Brom before appointing Slaven Bilic.
Recently, he has been heavily linked with the roles at Huddersfield Town and Sheffield Wednesday, moving to debunk the links.
Now, Cowley has spoken about the links once again, saying that he is remaining focused on his job at Sincil Bank with Lincoln, who face in-form Wycombe Wanderers this weekend.
He said:
“It would be nice to put it behind me, but I’m not sure if I can. You guys [the media] always seem to know more than I do. Ultimately, that’s where it is. There’s been no contact from Sheffield Wednesday and we’ve already spoken about Huddersfield.
“We can’t control what people say or write. All I can do is control where my focus lies and that is fully on the game ahead and Wycombe Wanderers on Saturday.
“It frustrates me when people speak categorically when none of it is true. It amazes me. I listen to some of our supporters who speak so categorically about things and aren’t even close to any of the truth.
“I listen to journalists and radio stations who, again, speak with so much confidence when they’re blatantly wrong. It amazes me when that can happen and people listen to that, but they do. That is football and I suppose the higher you go and the bigger your profile becomes, the more people have opinions.
“It’s just when people don’t know the facts. There’s always three parties involved. If it was down to me, I’d just tell you how it is, but obviously I have to tow the party line I suppose.”
