Bolton Wanderers assistant manager confirms they turned down several players

The new Bolton Wanderers assistant manager David Flitcroft has said the Trotters turned down several players on deadline day who wanted to “talk money”.

Bolton had to pull the plug on talks with players who were keen on capitalising on their urgency to get numbers into their squad.

The League One side turned to former Barnsley and Rochdale boss Keith Hill as their new manager and he managed to bring in nine players on Monday, Liam Bridcutt, Joe Bunney, Josh Emmanuel, Thibaud Verlinden, Ali Crawford, Will Buckley, Chris O’Grady, Daryl Murphy and Jake Wright.

Their assistant Flitcroft has said, as per a report by the Bolton News: “We turned down a lot. We got nine in but some, or their agents wanted to talk about that little bit of extra money, that little bit of extra comfort. What do we get paid? Can we get more?

We didn’t want that one bit. We turned those down because they are not the right fit for the business plan or for us in the dressing room.”

It has been a turbulent summer for the North-West side but now they finally have something to look forward to this season after their takeover.

It may take time for all the new signings to gel together as a team but in Hill and Flitcroft Bolton have two men who know this division inside out and their experience will pay dividends for them eventually.
