Nottingham Forest man discusses Shrewsbury Town loan move

Speaking to Shrewsbury Town’s official club website, new signing Jason Cummings has said that he is looking forward to playing for a manager who wants him.

During the January transfer window, Shrewsbury Town tried to sign Jason Cummings on loan from Nottingham Forest after he returned to parent club Nottingham Forest once his loan deal at Peterborough United had come to an end.

However, he instead opted to join Luton Town. Now, he has arrived at Shrewsbury Town and he is delighted to have made the move. The Scottish striker is looking forward to working with Shrews boss Sam Ricketts, saying:

“I’m delighted to be here, I spoke to the Gaffer a few weeks ago and he was really keen to get me in. That’s half the battle, finding a manager who wants you.

“Over the last season or so I haven’t played as much as I would have wanted. This season for me is just about playing games, enjoying my football and scoring goals and the gaffer says he can help me with that.

“It is a good feeling when a manager wants you.  I signed for other clubs where it’s the club that signs you rather than the manager, but at the end of the day, it’s the manager who picks the team. Sam has shown confidence that he wants me here so when the chance came up again in the summer it was a no brainer.”

“He [Ricketts] says he wants me back enjoying football again, he wants me back scoring goals again. He knows that I’m going to bring goals to the table and I’ll need to get myself 100% match fit and get out there and score goals.”

Cummings went on to add that he is hoping that the experience he holds can be a benefit to the side and he is looking forward to playing at a level where he has previously enjoyed himself.

“I can bring experience to the team, I’ve played in the Scottish leagues, Championship and League One. I know League One very well and when I was at Peterborough I started really well, played a month and scored a lot of goals. I found it was quite a good level to play in and if I can continue what I was doing there I will score goals every week.”
