KV Mechelen leading race to sign Stoke City striker

KV Mechelen are leading the race to sign Stoke City striker Julian Ngoy on loan.

The youngster by various Belgian sides, according to a report by Stoke On Trent Live.

Ngoy, who is a Belgium Under-21 international, is expected to leave the Potters on loan again before the end of the European transfer window on Monday with his first team opportunities still limited under Nathan Jones.

The Antwerp-born forward spent last season on loan at Swiss giants Zurich Grasshoppers and scored five goals in 23 appearances.

Ngoy started his career with spells as a youngster at Anderlecht and Club Brugge before joining Stoke in the summer of 2013. He made his Potters debut in a Premier League game against Arsenal in December 2016.

He has since gone onto play six more times for them and has also had a loan spell away in League One with Walsall the season before last.

Mechelen could be his next destination with a return to native country a distinct possibility. They were promoted to the top flight in the last campaign after winning the First Division B title and also won the Belgian Cup in May after beating Gent in the final.

They play their football in the Antwerp province meaning they will be familiar to Ngoy and have won the First Division title four times in their history, the last of which came in 1989.
