Charlton Athletic boss emerges as shock contender for Huddersfield Town job

Charlton Athletic boss Lee Bowyer has emerged as the favourite for the Huddersfield Town job.

The 42-year-old is currently the 3/10 odds-on favourite for the Terriers’ position on SkyBet.

Huddersfield have been in the hunt for a new manager after sacking Jan Siewert following a poor start to the season. Mark Hudson has been placed in caretaker charge whilst a successor is found.

Bowyer, who signed a new contract with Charlton in the summer, is now being tipped to switch London for Yorkshire in a move which would certainly raise some eyebrows. His side have made a dream start to life back in the Championship having won three games out of five.

The once-capped England international spent his playing days for the likes of Leeds United, West Ham United, Newcastle United, Birmingham City and Ipswich Town before retiring in 2012.

He got into coaching with a brief stint Watford Under-21’s  in 2015 before switching to Charlton’s coaching set-up. He was appointed their assistant to ex-manager Karl Robinson in July 2017.

Bowyer was placed in caretaker charge in March last year and got the permanent job despite losing to Shrewsbury Town in the League One Play-Offs in the 2017/18 season. He then guided the Addicks to promotion through the Play-Offs after beating Sunderland in the final at Wembley in May.

He is loved by the Charlton fans and is doing a brilliant job at the Valley, would he swap for Huddersfield now?
