Blackburn Rovers boss relishing opportunity of cup upset against Premier League side

Blackburn Rovers boss Tony Mowbray is relishing the opportunity of a cup upset against Premier League side Sheffield United according to his interview on their official website.

Rovers head to Bramall Lane to take on Chris Wilder and his men in the Carabao Cup and Mowbray thinks his side should look forward to potentially knocking out the top flight club.

However, he is well aware of the stern test that faces them with the Blades having made a decent start to Premier League life, beating Crystal Palace, drawing with Bournemouth and losing narrowly to Leicester City on Saturday.

“It’s an opportunity against a Premier League side who will make a lot of changes and still be very strong,” Mowbray said.

“McBurnie hasn’t been starting for them and yet they paid £20m for him, Lys Mousset was £10m, Luke Freeman was £6m or £7m.”

“I’d imagine that they’ll still field a pretty strong team against us, so we’ll look to get the balance right with our selection and go there to try and be competitive.”

“The figures mentioned are what you get when you get in the Premier League, and that’s okay,” he added. “They may be a little bit rusty, they may not have played together as a unit.”

“But when you think of Sheffield United you think of their overlapping centre halves. They’ll be positive, aggressive, play with two strikers and get it out wide to put balls into the box. We look forward to that challenge.”

Blackburn have experienced a mixed start to their campaign but have kept a clean sheet in their last three games in all competitions but know they will need to be at the top of their game if they are to knock out the Premier League newcomers.
