Rotherham United nearing three new signings

Rotherham United manager Paul Warne has said that the Millers are closing in on the signing of three new players, with a centre-back and two wingers the players he believes are nearing moves to the club.

Paul Warne made no secret of the fact that Rotherham United were nearing a signing last week, saying that the club had held talks with a centre-back over a move to the club despite saying he would not be coming in as first, second or even third choice in his side.

Now, speaking to the Sheffield Star, Warne has revealed that the Millers are closing in on the signings of a new centre-back and two wingers, with the Rotherham boss hoping they can all be confirmed by this weekend. He added that Blackpool’s new signing Ben Heneghan was a player they looked at but insisted that the player that is set to come in is the one that he wants.

“Heneghan was one of many centre-halves we looked at but I think I have got the one I want,” Warne said.

“We’re just dotting the ‘i’s and crossing the ‘t’s. I met him and liked him. He fits what I want. He’s got other offers. I probably don’t offer as much in wages as the other two teams who want him but I like to think we offer more than just money.

“I would like to think that by after the weekend I’ve got a permanent winger in, a permanent centre-half in and probably another winger coming in.”

Warne went on to discuss the two wingers that could join in further details saying that while an offer to sign a new winger on a permanent basis has been accepted, a loan deal for Championship wide man remains in the pipelines, with the player thinking about the move.

“We’ve had an offer accepted for a second permanent winger. We need to see if we can agree terms with him and whether we fit with his ambitions. I’ll have to quickly meet him because I want to get him in the building as soon as possible.

“I met another winger earlier in the week and have put a proposal into his club. He wants to think about it. He’s with a Championship side. I’m not 100 per cent convinced he is going to come, if I’m honest.”
