Sunderland lining up swoop for Sheffield Wednesday left-back

Sunderland are lining up a move for Sheffield Wednesday left-back Morgan Fox.

The Black Cats have already seen a first bid rejected by the Owls for the 25-year-old but are set to go in with another one, according to a report by the Sunderland Echo.

Jack Ross is eager to bring in a new left-back before the transfer window shuts as competition with Denver Hume for that position and has identified Fox as an ideal signing.

Fox, who is a former Wales Under-21 international, is believed to be open to a move to the Stadium of Light with his first-team opportunities at Hillsborough currently limited.

The Chelmsford-born defender started his career in the academy at Ipswich Town before joining Charlton Athletic as a youngster in March 2012.

He gained his first taste of first-team football on loan at Notts County in 2013 before making his senior debut for the Addicks coincidently against his current club Sheffield Wednesday in January 2014 in the FA Cup.

Fox went onto make 116 appearances for Charlton before Wednesday swooped to sign him in January 2017. He has since played 71 times for the Championship outfit.

A move back down to League One with Sunderland could now be on the cards for the full-back and it would be a decent move for him. The Black Cats are a big club and his starting opportunities will be much greater than they are with the Owls at the moment.
