Charlton Athletic plan to keep new striker amid rumours of loan departure

Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has said that the Addicks are planning on keeping striker Macauley Bonne at the club amid rumours that they could look to send him out on loan after the signing of Tomer Hemed.

Reports have emerged over the course of the past week or so claiming that Charlton Athletic could be open to the idea of sending striker Macauley Bonne out on loan just a matter of months after snapping him up from Leyton Orient.

With the arrival of Tomer Hemed, Bonne has been further pushed down the pecking order, with Lyle Taylor locking down the starting spot in Lee Bowyer’s side.

However, despite the eventual confirmation of Hemed’s arrival, Addicks boss Bowyer has said to News Shopper that Bonne is a player they want to keep at The Valley. While he is not the “finished article”, Bowyer has said he is keen to keep him in order to help further his development.

“I would like to keep him here and keep working with him. As it stands he’s staying, we’ve got Macauley.

“I understand he’s a project. He wasn’t the finished article, he’s improving all the time, his movement’s getting better. We have a good base to work from, he can finish, both feet, good in the air. It’s the other side of his game we are working on, his movement, being more clever in and outside the box. He’s improving.”

While Bonne is unlikely to make a loan move away from the club, youngsters Alfie Doughty and Albie Morgan are among the players who could head out on a temporary basis.
