Darren Ferguson previews Peterborough United’s clash with Southend as Posh look to pick up first win

Peterborough United manager Darren Ferguson is confident that his side will be able to pick up their first three points of the 2019/20 season as they travel to fellow strugglers Southend United tonight.

Peterborough United and Southend United have both struggled in the opening stages of the new League One season. While the Shrimpers have lost their opening three games, Posh earned their first point of the season against Ipswich Town, drawing 2-2 after conceding a late equaliser on Saturday afternoon.

Despite their poor start to the season, Posh boss Darren Ferguson is confident his side will claim their first win of the season at Roots Hall after a more encouraging performance against Ipswich.

“I feel it is always going to be about the level of performance we get to,” Ferguson said to the Peterborough Telegraph.

“I feel if we get similar to what we produced on Saturday, obviously cutting out the errors, on a consistent basis then I do feel we will start winning games. The main focus will be on our performance, the energy levels we put into it.

“Southend have not started the season great, but neither have we. It is always a tough place to go, and it will be a tough match, but we have to make sure we get our bit right first.”

The Posh will not have to contend with any new injury problems for Tuesday night’s game. Youngster Serhat Tasdemir has recovered from a knock which saw him forced off against Oxford United this time last week and star man Marcus Maddison is fighting fit.
